Buried in a Good Book

☆☆☆☆

Tess needs a fresh start after her messy divorce, so why not a cabin in the middle of nowhere? Inherited by her estranged grandfather, the cabin turns out to be rather rustic, to the huge dismay of her teenage daughter Gertie who she hardly got to agree to come in the first place.
Tess is a thriller writer through and through, intrigued by things that would come straight out of her books she decided to don her investigative hat to explore the goings on. The local grumpy serif is not a fan of the newbie getting in his way but Tess can't get over the fact that he strangely mirrors the main protagonist in her famous thriller series.
The background story of Tess bonding with her snarky daughter, with all the conflicts of the typical teen but really are they more alike than it first appears...

This book is full of unexpected twists and turns, quirky characters, and a potential love interest (?). I loved every second of it, reading this definitely made me realise I love books weaved with humour. I can't wait to dive into book two!

On Spine of Death

☆☆☆☆

Continuing on from the first book in the series, Tess and Gertie decide to stay put at the cabin and start putting down some roots. They take on the task of transforming their grandfather's run-down shop into a new bookstore but what historic skeletons are hidden in the closets or rather, under the floorboards...
The introduction of multiple new characters keeps the world feeling fresh, especially one being a 'hot young man' to help her renovate adding a whole new level of suspense.
I love coming back into this world that Tamara Berry has created, she really is great at writing these twists that keep you guessing all the way until the big reveal. Is cosy drama a thing? This series is definitely that. Book Three can't come soon enough!
